Need an excuse? | Mt Shasta Portrait and Wedding Photographer

There are certain obvious times in our lives where we take photos.  Weddings, senior portraits, engagement photos, newborn and maternity photos… but if you do the math - there are such crucial times in between these huge life events that deserve documentation.
Don’t you want to look back when you’re 90 and remember how great you looked in your 20’s (or 30’s or 40’s… or you 90’s for that matter!)
What about your kids?  Will you remember in 30 years what your child looked like at 18 months?  Have you taken a single decent photo in between birthday parties (other that possibly those awkward, embarrassing photos the school takes each year)?

Do you need an excuse to take photos more often?  Click Read More for a list of great excuses.
1. Everything I just mentioned about wanting to be able to show off how you look now.  I have professional shots of my Grandpa as an officer in Japan, post WWII.  I always knew him as Grandpa Sammy, it’s interesting to see who he was when he was younger.
2. Memories.  Even if you just make an effort to take more snapshots, it’s so important for you and your kids to document all the stages of growing up.  My mom took my sister and I to a portrait studio at least twice a year for photos.  Most photographers are far more creative than Sears was back then, but it was something other than a boring yearbook photo and I loved doing it.  I love that I have photos of me as a teenager where I’m not making a bratty face in a snapshot.
3. There are 100 different creative shoots out there that you wouldn’t normally think of.  A few I’ve heard lately: Smash the Cake sessions for 1 year olds, Beauty Sessions for Women, Boudoir photography to give to a significant other, Trash the Dress, Day after the Wedding Creative Shoots, Back to School Shoots, Holiday Family Photos, Professional Headshots… you get the idea.
4. You will be able to fill wallspace in your house with something other than posters or generic canvas prints from Walmart.  Wouldn’t it be amazing to be surrounded with photos of loved ones?
5. You can support local small businesses and artists.  Now, I know I said you could just pick up the point and shoot more - but there are great reasons to hire a professional.  They’re usually someone local who’s trying to make a living improving your life.  In some cases (such as with Authentically Beautiful Photography who donates 5% to Passionately Pink for the Cure), you may even be supporting a great cause.
Well, I hope you have some ideas to think about.  Go out and create memories!
