A fellow art aficionado and talented jewelry designer and artist herself, one of the first things she said to me was that people liked taking her photo because she had two different colored eyes.
Amber not only loved to pose for photos when we were together. She had amazing energy, which led to some beautiful spontaneous captures at events.
She also had a plethora of great ideas. “Here, take a photo of me with this bottle of Weed Ale (local brewery).” She then proceeded to pose for approximately 7 varied shots so I could play with focus, composition.
In addition to being the only non-photographer mentor, she was also a key figure in the local arts community, serving with me as a fellow officer on the Weed Arts Council board of directors.
Amber passed away early July, suddenly, leaving a hole in everyone who knew (and inevitably, undeniably) loved her. I took a long step away from my work and art to focus on celebrating the life and beauty she shared with everyone around her. I sometimes feel at a loss for words to describe what an amazing influence she was. I know I am a better person from the time I spent with her.
Amber, I miss you daily. I know you’re in a sweeter place and that you brought so many people together in life and in death. I’ll miss the inspiration I found from having you here, but I also feel comforted in knowing that in a way you still are here, at my side, pushing me to do better, be better. I can still here the echo of you telling me constantly, “You got this girl.”
