Dog Days of Summer | Mt Shasta Portrait and Wedding Photographer

It’s been a long (not so hot until recently) summer here in Mt. Shasta. I’ve been fortunate to spend it working, playing, surrounded with friends and with loved ones (and unfortunately losing loved ones as well - Rest in Peace, Amber and Roy). I’ve also been fortunate enough to spend it surrounded with… dogs. I never knew I was a dog lover until I adopted Chloe, and I can’t imagine going back. So, for fun, enjoy some photos of my favorite dogs of this summer.

First, my adorable goober of a dog, Chloe. She is my high energy, yet simultaneously lazy, smart/stupid/stubborn, doofy Lab/Aussie mix. She spent a lot of the summer riding around in cars. Up until this past month, the weather has been cool. Chloe would come with me to get gas, go to Rite Aid, drive to friend’s houses, and sometimes just drive up the side of a mountain for fun. She seemed to enjoy when the top was off my Jeep Wrangler, even though I had to tie her to the roll bar to keep her from jumping out.

She seemed to enjoy riding in the back of my friend’s 4-runner, even though she was bounced around a bit on that one hill. However, Chloe did not seem to be a fan of riding in the front seat of my ‘65 Mustang. She was hesitant and wanted in the back.

Charlie dog and Trina were the major lake dogs of summer. They chased balls while lesser dogs sat on the shore and watched. For being a lab mix, Chloe is not a fan of swimming.

Carissa, my parent’s flunked out ex-Guide Dog puppy (also a lab) doesn’t swim much either. Though she will drink water out of the pool in the backyard. Here she is stealing Chloe’s bed from her. In all fairness, Chloe was probably in Carissa’s bed at the time.

Cuda is a sweet old dog who digs sleeping holes and will lick you 27 times before you know she’s there.

Sierra, a hound dog who can’t even sniff out food and is as much a goober as Chloe, has my heart wrapped around her big silly ears. Abandoned by a fox-hound breeder after having who knows how many puppies, friends found her in the Sierra Nevada mountains nearly starved to death. Lots of TLC later and she’s about the sweetest, lovingest little hound ever. Plus, I’m a sucker for a sad story. She had me at barrroooo.

I hope everyone had a great, dog (or cat, or bunny, or llama) filled summer, because school is starting up and it’s time for more work and less play. Have any great stories or photos? Please share! I am a sucker for a good pet story.
