We are an image friendly society. When we’re constantly being inundated with images, you need to find a way to make yourself stand out from the crowd! Will a standard snapshot do that? Possibly. Maybe. Okay, probably not.
Can professional images help build your brand? I think so. Here’s how:
One of the biggest parts of your brand is… YOU! You are the representative of your business and connecting with your customers personally will be a huge part of your marketing and customer service. You want customers to connect a face with your name.
Headshots are one way to accomplish this.
If you can associate the headshot with what you do, even better.
Another approach to take is to have a lifestyle photograph session in your place of work that showcases you actually doing that wonderful thing you specialize in.
Steve Cianciola is a local wood-worker who makes beautiful things and let me sit in while he stepped out of the shop to make a cabinet in the sunshine this past weekend.
I’ll go back later and shoot the finished product as well, but the in progress shots really tell a story about the craftsmanship and hard work that go into the project. Meticulous measuring and marking and using some amazing power tools I’ve never even seen.
Finally, I think it’s important to showcase your product beautifully as well. Some product photography can be achieved by you. Times to look into using a professional are when you’re incorporating models, holding an event or you just can’t achieve what you want with the equipment you have. If you’re holding an annual event or perform often, I think event photography is a great way to show off your brand and build a bank of images that can be used to promote year after year.
Pyrate Technics, out of Weed, is a great example of building a brand with photography. They have an amazing show that draws a crowd. Using photography of previous shows was one thing that drew me to their performances (and ultimately made me want to photograph them myself!).
Hope you have some great new ideas for incorporating photography into your business model. Contact me if you want more information or ideas for your business’s photographic branding, I’d love to help. 530.918.8575
