“Your Camera Takes Nice Photos” | Mt Shasta Portrait and Wedding Photographer

I think one big misconception about the photography industry is that all you need is a 10 megapixel rebel on Program mode to be a professional photographer. But, I promise, there really is a reason I’ve been studying this for 12 years and that was so I could learn to capture amazing photos. Anyone who’s talked to me, taken a class or read my “Outside the Frame” blog knows I know the technical ins and outs of photography and working with clients.
A friend just posted this blog link on my Facebook wall and I found it really compelling and honest in regards to professional photography.
“It’s all about what you know: the technicalities of photography. You have to determine just the right type and direction of light, position your models to take advantage of that light and create a pleasing composition, utilize the correct camera settings (aperture, ISO, etc.) and work with your models to make them feel comfortable. And that’s just the first half! After the photo shoot there is still post-processing to be done.”
The post even goes as far as to do an experiment with her professional camera and her untrained brother, using the same location and the same model. The results really speak for themselves. Please go read the full article.

Finally, remember all this when you’re looking to hire a photographer. Not everyone with a high end camera is experienced. Most people hire photographers to record important life memories. Make sure you trust the hands you put the camera into.
Love and Respect,
